Tour Operators
Tour operators arrange packages together. In package customers look at 4 things for sure: Accommodation, Ancillaries (extras for holiday) e.g. car hire and insurance, Access (Transports) and attractions. Tour operators are the holiday companies that many of us use when booking UK or overseas holiday. For example, Tui (who own Thomson holidays) Thomas cook.
In the UK there are approximately 900 tour operator office members of ABTA, The travel association. Unlike travel agents who sell holidays and a range of other travel products, tour operators actually assemble the different parts of a holiday, by dealing with airlines, hotels and other accommodation providers, coach companies and other travel service companies.
Types of tour operators
Mass market tour operators- e.g. Tui or Thomas cook
Specialist tour operators- e.g. Cox & Kings, Kuoni and Himalayan kingdoms.
Domestic Tour operators, are those who sell holidays within your country- e.g. YHA, PGL, Sheerings holidays and Haven Holidays.
Incoming tour operators (inbound)- e.g. Titan tours or Gullivers sports travel.
